Mystery, intrigue, drama, suspense & shock in just one page: A Face on the Wall by E.V.Lucas

I read this story in school. It was prescribed in my short story text book, that I considered a collection of gems, & carried with me everywhere & all the time. A Face on The Wall was one such story.

So, with much ado, let me delve a little in the story to pique the interest of those who have not read it:

The story is set in the scene of a party…an evening party. Discussions are rolling in the gathering from ranging from all possible topics, until they zero in on “unexplained happenings”. Suddenly, a young man, who was mostly silent until then quips in. He says that he has a very strange story to share. The story involves his gradually growing paranormal relationship with a “patch” on his wall; a patch that actually resembles a human face!! And a face that actually has a human form, somewhere in the World!!

What follows in his tale has all elements of mystery, intrigue, drama, suspense and later absolute shock for the readers. The most remarkable aspect is the length of the story. The story is not more than one page long & packs all these elements beautifully in just one page!! Absolutely brilliant!! Precisely, a reason why I still remember it in great detail, after almost two decades.

For those interested to read, here is the link to the story:

E.V.Lucas was an English journalist, essayist, playwright & author of innumerable short stories. His style of writing is crisp & to the point. No wonder he was capable of putting all emotions in one short page and got straight to building the story, and wasted mostly no time in introductions to characters.

Hope you love the story as much as I did!!
